The people of the UK have two reactions to the start of August; one half will welcome the chilly mornings, introduction of jumpers and preparation for Halloween with open arms, whilst the others will curse the darker evening, hate the never-ending rain and long for the summer days once again for the next 6 months. Regardless of which category you fall into, artificial grass doesn’t wait around and it needs to be correctly cared for in ways that fit the current season. Here are a few care tips for autumn…

  • During autumn the leaves love to fall and that means that your once completely clear turf will be covered with them. It is vital that you work to remove these leaves as quickly as possible as if they are left to rot they could affect how efficient the drainage is within your lawn. Once a week should suffice.
  • As we head into autumn the weather will begin to change quite considerably. In fact, near the end of the season you may begin to notice frost appearing on your lawn. Whilst it may be tempting to remove it, you should leave it to melt away on its own. Using any form of equipment to clear it away can damage the fibres and cause the turf to tear.
  • Heavy rainfall is common during autumn since it is known as a wet season and most of the time your turfs drainage system should be able to cope with the levels. On the other hand, if you fail to clear away leaves or other debris, you may find that the water cannot penetrate down and starts pooling on top. Whilst this reinforces the importance of clearing away leaves, it can also be problematic as it can damage the drainage system completely.

Caring for your artificial grass is important if you want to ensure that it lasts for its entire lifespan. After all, it comes with a low maintenance guarantee not a no maintenance guarantee which means that there is still some work to be done in order to keep it looking attractive.
