Noah Cunningham is an 11-year-old boy in Southport who suffers from muscle wastage disease, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which means he is unable to walk and uses a wheelchair to get about. Noah’s mum, Vicki, is attempting to raise enough money through donations to install a special artificial grass lawn and a hot tub so he can enjoy using the garden with his three siblings.

Duchenne’s Disease leads to serious medical problems later in life and raises issues related to the person’s heart and lungs. The life expectancy of a person with Duchenne is usually into the late 20s.

The artificial grass lawn will even out the garden, making it completely wheelchair accessible and the hot tub is to provide hydrotherapy, which used to be funded but has been stopped, which helps to relax Noah’s muscles. Noah was diagnosed with the rare condition at the age of two after he failed to begin walking like the other children. His mum Vicki has said that the new artificial grass lawn and hot tub will help improve her son’s quality of life and will allow him to play wheelchair football with his brothers.

So far, a Liverpool-based charity, An Hour for Others, is involved in the project and has various builders and workmen on board to complete the renovation.
