If you cast your mind back to the beginning of 2011, you might remember the panic in the voices of many farmers, water companies and even the Environments Secretary’s voice this was due to the threat of biblical droughts across the UK.
By April, the capital and over half of England was officially declared as ‘in drought’ or at risk by the Environment Agency and water, bans were put in place. The artificial grass industry and UK artificial grass companies like Great Grass seen a significant increase in interest and sales. This increase came about predominantly due to customers seeing the true positives of a product that looks great all year around and requires very little upkeep and no watering.
Fast forward to the end of December 2012 and the UK has just experienced its second wettest year since records began! Most areas were affected by the extreme weather and heavy downfalls in the 8 months since April. Thousands of homes were flooded and once again, the poor farmers were in hardship struggling to grow soil thanks to saturated soil. Further bad news for some; environmental analysts expect this trend to continue over the coming years.
It is not good news for gardeners either. Experts at the recent Royal Horticultural Society conference who said that the traditional British lawn will be a thing of the past; changing weather patterns are making it harder to maintain the perfect garden. Increased rain means an increase the speed of the growth of grass and the appearance of buttercups and daisies; to take control this Professor Richard Bisgrove said “‘If you are after the perfect lawn you have to cut it closely, at least once a week, burning fossil fuels, using more fuel.” Once again artificial grass is best to alleviate this problem with no mowing, no mud and no mess required!
